The Travel Bug

For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move. – Robert Louis Stevenson

I have the travel bug BAD. I’ve always enjoyed traveling, but it seems the older I get the more I want to pack my bags and head out on an adventure. This could be genetic; my grandmother LOVES to travel. I’m sure if I called her up right now and said I need a travel companion to _________ she would have her bags packed before we got off the phone.

Our next trip is to New Orleans. We’re going for a friend’s wedding, but will be staying a few extra days so we can explore the city. We’ve never been to NOLA, but always hear what a great place it is. Almost everyone I’ve talked to that has been to NOLA has provided a recommendation on where to go, what to do, and what to eat. I’m starting to seriously plan the trip and am ready to compile all your recommendations. So, if you have been to NOLA and think there’s a place(s) we absolutely have to visit, leave me a comment and let me know where and why.  I’m anxious to read all your suggestions and I’ll be sure to let you know where we actually visit.

  1. My desire to travel always peaks when I’m feeling most overwhelmed with adult responsibilities. It’s a desire to escape life…

  2. I totally agree. My life is a bit overwhelming at the moment which is adding to my desire to get away.

  3. Anna, I have a love affair with travel for travel’s sake AND a love affair with New Orleans! Geesh…don’t know where to start.

We love Hotel Monteleone and the St. Louise. These hotels are so close to all the action.

I love to eat at Desire, Mother’s, The FrenchMarket (across from the French Market), Pascale’s Manales (garden district…. best BBQ shrimp), The River’s Edge (great breakfast…right across from Cafe DeMonde) and Mena’s Palace in the Warehouse district. We also found a few off the beaten path that are just as good and a little cheaper.

We have taken the Vampire Tour. I loved it for the history. This time we took a city tour on a bus. It was AWESOME! 3 hours of info on the whole city. We even got to go to the 9th ward. Which is really worth seeing. Gives you an appreciation for what is still going on there. Also got to see Brad Pitt’s project and Harry Connick Jr.’s project. Very cool.

We love zydeco at the Tropical Isle and Old Opera House on Bourbon St. The Boniffs play Thurs – Sunday at the Opera House. Walling and Timmy are awesome at Tropical Isle… don’t know the days for sure, but they generally play around 5pm. You have to play the wash board with Timmy! Tell him I said Hi. He’ll remember the time I got the paddle broke on my ass.

I would definitely recommend to see the other districts. French Quarter is cool, but so it the Garden District, Warehouse district and city park. Oh, the cemeteries are amazing. You need someone to tell you the story behind the mausoleums.

Lots of great shopping on Royal St. I loved the art! Thought you might too. :)

Could go on & on… let me know what you discover while you are there.

  4. Thanks Tiff!
